. According to the director this movie is based on literary work Umrao Jaan Ada
published in 1904 and not a remake of Rekha starrer Umrao Jaan. The films costumes budget was
worth Rs 80 million ranging from expensive ethnic outfits to embroidered designer wears worn by beautiful Aishwarya Rai.

ex Pakistan President Zia-Ul-Haq. The film is set during the period when Afghanistan
was raided by U.S.S.R. and the Americans wanted to use the help of Pakistan to help
Afghanistan get freedom from U.S.S.R. Shooting of the film will start next month with
