Bollywood Stars Buy Into Cricket Date: 01/24/2008: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) and Preity Zinta have into the Indian Premier League (IPL) . Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) and Juhi Chawla Juhi Chawla picked up the Kolkata team for $75.09 million while Fellow actor Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia won the Mohali team for USD 76 million. The Mumbai team was won by Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani for $111.9 million and GMR Holdings won the bid for the Delhi team for $84 million, India Cements grabbed the Chennai team for $91 million, Deccan Chronicle got the Hyderabad team for $107.01 million and Emerging Media won the bid for the Jaipur team for $67 million.

01/27/2008: BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) has signed US firm SOMA Networks to deploy the world’s largest mobile WiMax network in India. It's a project with both parties will benefit from the revenues, SOMA has agreed to provide the technology to BSNL. Mobile WiMax will be rolled out in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and make avaialble wireless broadband coverage to nearly 200 million people over the next 3 years. This will make it the first deployment of mobile WiMax per the 802.16e standard. |
01/26/2008: French president Nicolas Sarkozy is currently visiting India on official business and will meet Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh . During his visit to India, he plans to visit Agra and see the Taj Mahal, and sources said he will be companied by model Carla Bruni . |
01/24/2008: Bird flu has hit West Bengal hard and the Authorities are having a hard time controlling it from spreading. Authorities fears that the bird flu could reach big cities like Kolkata. Currently the bird flu has been reported in nine of West Bengal's 19 districts with new reports that are coming from other districts. Indonesian man died who had tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus and the virus has also resurfaced in Europe. |
01/23/2008: Delhi Gurgaon expressway open for public. The much awaited Delhi Gurgaon expressway was inaugurated by the Union Minister TR Baalu and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The road was constructed at the cost of Rs 1,000 crore and measures 27 km. The expressway will cut the commute from India's capital Delhi to Gurgaon about an hour. Toll will be collected to pay for the expressway and its maintenance. |
