Ana Ivanovic lost to Kateryna Bondarenko at the US open 2009 2-6, 6-3, 6-6 (9-7) during her first round match to make an early exit from the tournment. Ana is currently ranked 11th in the world and lost to Kateryna Bondarenko, who is currently ranked 52nd. Ana had match point in the 3rd set in the tie breaker 6-5 but netted an easy forehand and ended up lossing the match 9-7. |

The 22-year-old from Hyderabad, Sania Mirza defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to move onto round two at the US open. Sania fought hard and came upto the net to force the pace of the game. She won the first set with her trademark forehand, but let Govortsova get back into the game in the second set to loss 3-6 before coming back to close out the match 6-3. Now Saniw will face Italian 10th seed Flavia Pennetta. |
