The Indian goverment made many attempts to halt the auction of the memorabilia of Mahatma Gandhi but failed to do so. But no worry, it was Mr Vijay Mallya , Chairman of the United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines who ended up winning the memorabilia for a price tag of $1.8 million (nearly Rs 9.3 crore) at a New York auction. The items won include his round rimmed spectacles, leather sandals, 1910 silver Zenith pocket watch and the brass bowl and plate. Vijay Mallya plans to donate the items to be placed in a museum. Vijay Mallya firm UB Group owns the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League. |

Last week was one of the worst week in the history of US financial markets with the Dow, SP and Nasdaq lossing a lot of ground, but today, the markets seems to have turned a corner with biggest point gain ever for the Dow. The Dow surged 936 points (11%), SP added 11.7%, Nasdaq added 11.8%. Has investors looked for bargins or bet that the worst of the credit crisis is over. We will have to wait to see if this is the start of a Bull market or just a one day shot up. |
